restarts

Restarts

In Windows Vista, are there supposed to be much less restarts required than in previous versions of Windows? I get sick of having to restart my computer everytime there is a Windows security update. (Almost daily.) Even more annoying, XP keeps bugging you every five minutes to restart your computer if you don't. Granted, it only takes a minute or two at the most to restart my computer, but it is an interruption.
Thanks.

I don't know about Vistas restart tendancy, however if your getting almost daily security updates then something is very wrong. MS only normally issue updates once a month (second Tuesday).
There is a group policy setting that is supposed to turn off the 'Restart Windows' annoyance, but it never seems to work right for me. However, dropping to a command prompt and running "net stop wuauserv" (without the quotes) will silence it until after your next reboot.

You can postpone restarts in Windows Vista for updates. But as Slugsie said, they are delivered once a month every second Tuesday, just allocating sometime to do that would not be so bad. -- -- Andre Windows Connect | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

You see, with my updates... the only ones I get are Windows Defender ones. Now, they don't cause the system to restart... but would be good if Windows Update could actually update the definition files instead of looping round and round and round all the time! The only way to get out of the loop is to untick the box and make sure that "Don't show this update again" is ticked!!
Shocking stuff...

The only time I remember it doing that was in beta 1 when it was named Microsoft AntiSpyware. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

I'm getting yet another update today. The yellow shield is in the taskbar again. "Andre Da Costa [Extended64]" wrote in message

It was only there for a second, then it went away again. "Travis King" wrote in message

I got the same... this happens on Vista and XP SP2. However Wendy did say that this would be fixed. That's all I can really say about it... well, that's all she could find out about it.
